New records of trematode parasites (digenea) in the banded frog (Rana camerani) and marsh frog (Rana ridibunda ridibunda) (Anura: Ranidae), from southwest of Iran
Fourteen adult frogs including six banded frog, Rana camerani and eight marsh frog, Rana ridibunda ridibunda were collected from two sites of Chahar Mahal-o-Bakhtiari province at the southwest of Iran and then were examined for helminth parasites. Only Dolichosaccus rastellus (50%) was found in R. camerani, Skrjabinoeces similis (50%) and metacercarian cysts of Codonocephalus urniger (12.5%) w...

متن کاملInternal parasites of saposhnikovi shad, Alosa saposchnikowii (Grimm, 1887), from the southeastern part of the Caspian Sea, Iran
This paper presents the results of a parasitological study on internal parasitic infections in saposhnikovi shad, Alosa saposchnikowii, from the southern part of the Caspian Sea. In this regard 30 fish were studied for abdominal cavity parasites in February 2014. Results showed all of the specimens were infected at least with one kind of parasite and there was no significant difference in paras...
متن کاملLocal adaptation of immunity against a trematode parasite in marine amphipod populations
Resources allocated to defence against parasites are not available for investment in other functions such as growth or reproduction, resulting in trade-oVs between diVerent components of an organism’s Wtness. In balancing the cost of infection and the cost of immunity, selection should only favour individuals that allocate more energy to resistance and immune responses in populations regularly ...
متن کاملTrematode parasites infect or die in snail hosts.
The Red Queen hypothesis is based on the assumption that parasites must genetically match their hosts to infect them successfully. If the parasites fail, they are assumed to be killed by the host's immune system. Here, we tested this using sympatric (mostly susceptible) and allopatric (mostly resistant) populations of a freshwater snail and its trematode parasite. We determined whether parasite...
متن کاملBiomass and productivity of trematode parasites in pond ecosystems.
1. Ecologists often measure the biomass and productivity of organisms to understand the importance of populations and communities in the flow of energy through ecosystems. Despite the central role of such studies in the advancement of freshwater ecology, there has been little effort to incorporate parasites into studies of freshwater energy flow. This omission is particularly important consider...
